On Friday night, in the immediate aftermath of a horrific killing spree on International Holocaust Remembrance Day at a synagogue in the Holy City that left at least seven dead, Palestinians across East Jerusalem were seen celebrating the murders of the Israeli civilians. Videos posted on Twitter show groups dancing in the streets and lighting fireworks to celebrate the massacre.

This display of callous inhumanity can only be explained by the Palestinian culture of violence. No amount of equivocating about the Israeli presence in the West Bank or the new Netanyahu-led government’s policies can make sense of this heartless cruelty. The Palestinian media regularly laud and encourage violence against Israelis and Jews and extol those who commit acts of terror as martyrs. Until this glorification of barbarism ceases to be a mainstay of Palestinian society, peace between Israelis and Palestinians will remain out of reach.
