Palin: Dewhurst Campaign Has Spent Millions on ‘False Personal Attacks’ Against Cruz

In the Senate primary, Sarah Palin’s endorsement gave Ted Cruz a much-needed momentum boost. Now, in the first day of early voting in the runoff between Cruz and David Dewhurst, Palin is urging Texans again to back Cruz.

“Texans have a clear choice in this race, and I encourage them to support Ted Cruz, a strong conservative fighter who will protect and defend our Constitution and not just go along to get along with the reckless spending of the permanent political class in D.C,” Palin wrote on Facebook.

“The high-paid consultants of Ted’s well-funded opponent are in full panic mode and have plunged millions of dollars into false personal attacks against Ted meant to dispirit us and break our conviction,” she added. “We’ve all seen these tactics before, but together we can make sure they don’t succeed.”

Dewhurst has run controversial ads relating to Cruz’s legal work for a Chinese company and for the civil — not criminal — case of a Pennsylvania developer involved in a juvenile prison scandal.

UPDATE: “Unlike the Washington special interest groups that have spent millions in the U.S. Senate race attempting to mislead voters about David Dewhurst’s conservative record in Texas, everything we’ve said about Ted Cruz’s record is true,” e-mails Dewhurst spokesman Matt Hirsch in response to Palin’s remark. “The fact is David Dewhurst is a lifelong businessman who has helped make Texas’ economy the strongest in the nation by implementing conservative principles in cutting taxes, balancing budgets, and reducing the role of government. It’s the same proven record he will take to Washington as our next U.S. Senator to turn our country around.”
