A friend who shares my passion for middle-class tax relief writes in an e-mail:
At a campaign stop in Missouri today, Governor Palin said that she and McCain want to bring tax relief to all Americans. If only that were true. By proposing a bigger per child tax credit and making it refundable, McCain and Palin could a) trump Obama-Biden on providing middle-class tax relief; and b) show more independence from Beltway conservative policy wonks who argue that refundable tax credits are akin to handing out welfare checks to people who don’t pay taxes (even though they do pay the payroll tax). It is so perfect.
