Pataki: Dean of Dim Pols

In the annals of stupid comments by politicians, I’ve often thought this was at or near the top.

“It is conceivable,” George Pataki, declared in 2000 when he signed a hate-crimes bill into law, “that if this law had been in effect one hundred years ago, the greatest hate crime of all, the Holocaust, could have been avoided.”

I honestly don’t know if that can be beaten. You really have to let the stupidity of it wash over you to fully appreciate it.
