Don’t miss that “appeasement” piece Stanley linked to. Writing in The Guardian, of course, Tariq Ali blames Blair and the entire military response to 9/11 for leading to the London attacks:
Ever since 9/11, I have been arguing that the “war against terror” is immoral and counterproductive. It sanctions the use of state terror — bombing raids, torture, countless civilian deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq — against Islamo-anarchists whose numbers are small, but whose reach is deadly. The solution then, as now, is political, not military.
You will notice that there is no attempt to distinguish between the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns on Ali’s part, just as there was no distinction offered yesterday by the al Qaeda cell claiming responsibility for the attacks. Nor is there any doubting what the terrorists want, as Ali dutifully mouths:
The real solution lies in immediately ending the occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.
