Much of the conversation today about Marco Rubio’s re-election bid – aside from talk about Rubio’s past promises and future plans – has focused on two facts: Rubio polls much better in this race than other Republicans, but he faces a tight race against likely Democratic nominee Patrick Murphy, especially with the drag of Donald Trump atop the ballot.
But a blockbuster investigative report by CBS4 in Miami could damage Murphy so badly that this ends up as a Rubio walk, or even with him facing progressive circus act Alan Grayson. A sample:
A CBS4 News investigation into Murphy’s history as both a CPA and a self-described small business owner, however, shows Murphy has in some cases exaggerated his experience and in other instances made claims that were misleading or outright false.
For instance, he has never worked a day in his life as a Certified Public Accountant.
And he was never a small business owner.
Read the whole damning thing, which should offer a target-rich environment for Rubio to contrast his humble origins and work up the ladder of Florida politics with rich-kid Murphy and the opportunities that have been handed to him over the years. For one example, regarding Murphy’s CPA license:
Murphy took the licensing exam nine times before passing it. Even with a CPA license in Colorado, his opportunities in Florida were limited because his license was not valid in the Sunshine State….Murphy has never held a CPA license in the state of Florida.
The Democrats could scarcely have picked an emptier suit to challenge Rubio.
