On Paul Gleason

I’m mourning Paul Gleason today. For sci fi/pulp hero fans, he’ll be remember as “Long Tom,” the electrical wizard in the campy Doc Savage film from the 1970s. It was Gleason’s first movie role. My kids just saw the movie for the first time a couple of weeks ago. His was one of those faces you saw all over the place — TV and film — but whose name never quite got attached.

John Hood — Hood is president of the John William Pope Foundation, a North Carolina grantmaker. His latest book is a novel, Forest Folk (Defiance Press, 2022).
