Gadfly Tulsa Mayoral Candidate Crashes TV Debate

If the presidential debate cartel — as John Fund has termed it — remains closed to third-party candidates this fall, maybe Gary Johnson or, ahem, a certain National Review staff writer should try what perennial Tulsa mayoral candidate and gadfly Paul Tay pulled last night in my hometown after not being invited to participate in a TV debate.

Well, okay: It didn’t work that well — Tay was forced to leave.

But at least the man fights! Tay was upset over not being invited to the debate between Tulsa mayor Dewey Bartlett and City Councilor G.T. Bynum. A polling threshold of 10 percent had been set as a requirement for participation; Tay only received 2 percent support in a poll conducted before the debate.

The Tulsa World reports that Tay “initially announced on his Facebook page he would hold a news conference via Facebook Live at 8:06 a.m. [this morning to discuss the situation] but later postponed it to 1:15 p.m. due to ‘technical challenges.’ Another post asked, ‘Anyone have an ipad capable of Facebook Live?’”
