Even though he won’t make a decision for at least another year, Kentucky senator Rand Paul hinted at his 2016 presidential prospects by saying that he “would absolutely not run unless it were to win” and not just to prove a point like his father’s campaigns. Appearing on Fox News Sunday, he told host Chris Wallace, “I think the country is ready for the narrative coming: the libertarian Republican narrative.”
While the Republican party has fared well in holding congressional districts, Paul noted that it is “becoming less and less of a national party” by not having a presence on the West Coast, in New England, and around the Great Lakes. He said that “people want a party” that shares his views on foreign policy, national security, drug policy, and immigration.

“We won’t make a decision until 2014,” Paul said when Wallace pressed him on if he’d already made his decision. “But I think I do want the party to become a national party again and not lose sight of how we grow as party, so I think I’ll continue in that vein for a couple years, and then we’ll decide.”
