Pawlenty ‘Confident’ Campaign Will Show ‘Momentum’ Today

Ames, Iowa – Coming up on stage, Tim Pawlenty told his supporters that he expected his campaign would show “momentum” today.

“I am very confident that at the end of the day when they tally these votes, Team Pawlenty is going to show a lot of momentum in Ames, Iowa,” he said, before introducing Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee did not endorse Pawlenty, whom he called a “good and dear personal friend,” but he did have some kind words.

“A lot of people have been asking about endorsements,” Huckabee said. “And as you know, I’m not endorsing a candidate. But let me tell you what I am endorsing: I’m endorsing principle. I’m endorsing the principles of people who will stand for a smaller, more efficient government, lower taxes, the sancticty of life, and I wouldn’t be on this stage if this guy didn’t stand for those things.”

After the band The Nadas sang “Happy Birthday” to Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who has been leading the Pawlenty campaign’s efforts at the straw poll, Huckabee joined them for a song.

One thing’s for sure: if straw poll results mirror t-shirt numbers, Pawlenty’s slated for a win today. His supporters’ green t-shirts are flooding the grounds today.
