Pelosi Joins Anti-‘Redskins’ Chorus

Nancy Pelosi is the latest lawmaker to call on the Washington Redskins to change their team name, claiming that it is offensive to American Indians. She told the Hill that it “probably would be a good idea if they change the name.”

Pelosi recalled that she learned “Hail to the Redskins,” the team’s chant, as a child growing up in Baltimore, Md. “I didn’t have the faintest idea what I was saying, but I’ve known it forever,” the California congresswoman said.

Several legislators as well as President Obama have issued statements calling for the team to change its name, even though teamowner Dan Snyder has said he will “never” change the name.
