Pharmacies

I sort of agree with both Jonathan and Rod on this question, even though they disagree with each other. It is true that it should be possible for an employer to fire an employee for not doing his job. On the other hand, nobody’s job should entail the transfer of poisons to people who are planning to use them to kill human beings. The morning-after pill does not create exactly this situation, since it can prevent fertilization rather than causing the death of a fertilized egg. I’m just saying that in principle, there is no reason for free-market pro-lifers to affirm the right of employers to fire employees on the basis of not providing assistance for abortion. Pro-lifers might well think that the proper policy is to send the people who do provide these services to jail. Now we are very far from such a policy. But pro-lifers have no obligation to want a policy regime they abhor to be made more consistent.
