Planned Parenthood and NARAL ‘Still Believe Julie Swetnick’

Yesterday afternoon, abortion-rights groups Planned Parenthood and NARAL took to Twitter to inform the world that they still believe Julie Swetnick, the woman who accused Brett Kavanaugh of having participated in routine gang rape of young women while he was in high school.

PPNYC Action Fund and progressive judicial-action group Demand Justice added their voices to the pro-Swetnick chorus as well. Their comments came on the heels of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s announcement that it had referred Swetnick and her attorney, progressive 2020 hopeful and Stormy Daniels’s lawyer Michael Avenatti, to the Justice Department for criminal investigation.

Swetnick’s allegation — which she put forward in a sworn statement just before the hearing where Christine Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh testified about Ford’s own claim of sexual assault — quickly fell apart under scrutiny. Even Swetnick herself later contradicted and modified key aspects of her story, saying in an October 1 interview with NBC News that she actually never witnessed Kavanaugh spike anyone’s drink or participate in gang rape, as she had alleged under penalty of felony.

NBC admitted it had been unable to corroborate key details of her story before the interview, as well as that parts of what she said to them contradicted what she had averred in her sworn statement. The four friends that Swetnick claimed could verify her story failed to do so. And just this week, NBC revealed further weaknesses in her account that they failed to report at the time.

But despite the fact that Swetnick’s ridiculous story has been thoroughly debunked — and so thoroughly contradicted by her own words that she’s now been referred for criminal investigation — pro-abortion groups maintain that they “still believe” her. Julie Swetnick doesn’t even believe herself.

For abortion advocacy groups, her story was never the point. Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and, yes, even the ludicrous, debunked claims of Julie Swetnick were used by the pro-abortion left as tools to thwart the confirmation of a judge whom they believe will walk back the abortion rights they hold so dear. Planned Parenthood and NARAL don’t “still believe Julie Swetnick” because they care about actual victims of sexual violence. All they care about is using every available weapon, including false accusations and proven lies, to preserve the unlimited right to kill the unborn.
