A Very Unfortunate Event

Good author, bad politics. Via the New York Daily News:

Author Daniel Handler — better known by his pen name, Lemony Snicket — announced this week that he and his wife, Lisa Brown, will donate $1 million to Planned Parenthood.

The generous author, known for his children’s novels, “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” announced in a Twitter post Monday that the couple would be making the charitable donation.

“We’ve been very fortunate, and good fortune should be shared with noble causes,” he tweeted.

I’d quibble with “noble cause,” but Mr. Handler is free to do with his money as he pleases.

A question, though: With such generous private donors supporting it, does Planned Parenthood really need public funding, too?
