Playing the Verdun Card (Again)

This time it’s Merkel’s turn to play the Verdun card

“Nobody should believe that another half century of peace in Europe is a given — it’s not,” Mrs Merkel said. “So I say again: if the euro collapses, Europe collapses. That can’t happen.”

Ridiculous. But let’s be clear about one thing. If the panzers were really to start rolling in the aftermath of a euro collapse (they won’t), the fault would lie not with those that put this wretched, misbegotten currency out of its misery, but with those who put it together in the first place.
