What a truly awful story, noted in the web briefing. I didn’t post anything more on it, because I’m not sure what to say other than what I tweeted earlier: what awful news — and for a country I think many of us feel a deep kinship with.

In his recent book, Karl Rove says that the one person he’s always wanted to meet and never has is Lech Walesa. I know our special-relationship status is with the Brits, but many of us love and admire the Polish people in a special way — there’s lots of Cold War-victory admiration. There’s the JPII connection for a lot of us, Catholic and non-Catholic alike, too, of course.

Anyway, God bless the Polish people and the many families who lost loved ones in that plane crash. Including the daughter of the president and first lady ….
