I’m a “nontraditional” (read, 40 yr old) grad student in
counseling…a conservative fish in a sea of liberalism! The lie was
brought up in class yesterday, and Sen. Chambliss was roundly
condemned for being so hateful in his ads against Max Cleland. I
didn’t speak up loudly enough, partly because I’m already viewed as
the class bigot since I’m not a bleeding-heart.
It is amazing how this lie has such legs. It is such an easy meme to
think of the mean white businessman picking on the brave vet who is
maimed and can’t defend himself. My classmates don’t realize how
biased it really is to look at Cleland as weak and helpless.
Chambliss treated him as neither and has been pilloried ever since.
