Poll: Florida Governor Rick Scott Opens 6-Point Lead Over Democrat Charlie Crist

Florida governor Rick Scott leads former governor Charlie Crist by six points in a head-to-head matchup, according to a poll released Tuesday night.

The poll, conducted by the Graham Center and University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research, suggests public opinion has taken a turn in Scott’s direction. A February poll conducted by the same group had Crist, who’s running as a Democrat, leading Scott by seven points in a hypothetical matchup. Things looked even worse for Scott in April, when a Quinnipiac poll had Crist up 15 points. The Tampa Bay Times notes that winning female voters would be key to a statewide victory for Florida Democrats this November, and Scott has a slight edge on Crist among likely women voters right now.

Libertarian candidate Adrian Wyllie pulled voters away from both Scott and Crist when included in a three-way matchup, but Scott’s lead remained similar—five points up on Crist. While Wyllie’s impact may be insignificant now, that could change in November. Bay News 9 notes a majority of respondents did not say Scott or Crist individually could be trusted, but 61 percent of respondents said they could trust Wyllie.
