Poll: Walker Increases Lead over Dem Opponent

Scott Walker is hoping to win his third election in four years in November, and a new poll finds that he is off to a good start his against Democratic opponent. A Marquette University Law School survey finds the Wisconsin governor leading his opponent Mary Burke 47 percent to 41 percent.

In October, Walker and Burke were in a much tighter race, with Walker leading by just two percentage points. Walker remains at the 47 percent mark, but Burke has dropped from her then-level of 45 percent support.

Despite Walker’s having faced a recall election in 2012, more than half of Wisconsin residents believe the state is heading in the right direction under the governor (54 percent versus 44 percent). Additionally, 49 percent believe the state’s budget situation has improved under Walker; 26 percent think it has stayed the same, and only 20 percent think it has gotten worse.
