Portman’s Preview

Sen. Rob Portman (R., Ohio) tells NRO that he would like to hear two specific things from President Obama tonight: “serious proposals” to address the deficit and detailed spending cuts, not simply talk of a federal pay freeze. “Let’s hear solutions,” he says. “Not just words.”

“I’ve gone back and read his speech from last year,” Portman says.

“Last year, he said he’d have a three-year freeze; now, he’s saying five years. We’ll judge him by his actions. Let’s see if he’s serious about getting our fiscal house in order.”
