Prayers for the Bidens

Joe Biden has known his share of tragedy and heartache through the years. Now, having lost a wife and daughter in a car crash, having endured major surgery for life-threatening cranial aneurysms, having had one impressive son develop a drug problem, he has lost his other son — a rising political star — to brain cancer at age 46. Words fail.

One can only hope that the vice president can hear a voice again saying, “Get up, Joey, get up.” It is especially for those of us who don’t like Biden’s politics to now show him that compassion and empathy know no political boundaries, and thus to be there in whatever small ways we can to help him to hear that voice.

May the Lord comfort the vice president and his entire family, and may Beau Biden rest in God’s joy.

Four Cheers for Incandescent Light Bulbs

It brought me much -- indeed, too much -- joy to hear of the Trump administration's rollback of restrictions on incandescent light bulbs, even if the ban will remain in place. The LED bulbs are terrible. They give off a pitiable, dim, and altogether underwhelming "glow," one that never matched the raw (if ... Read More
