The President, Leading Us Nobody Knows Where

C. S. Lewis had similar thoughts on the unpredictability of “evolution” in his “Evolutionary Hymn” (read it all here):

Lead us, Evolution, lead us 

Up the future’s endless stair:

Chop us, change us, prod us, weed us

For stagnation is despair:

Groping, guessing, yet progressing,

Lead us nobody knows where.

And, come to think of it, “Lead us nobody knows where” might be quite a good slogan for Obama’s presidential campaign.
