The President of University of the Texas-Pan American Young Dems Is a Sex Offender

The president of the Young Democrats at one University of Texas campus, who’s involved in Democratic voter-registration efforts in the state, happens to be a registered sex offender.

Billy Wayne Johnson, who identifies himself on his Twitter account as president of the Young Democrats at University of Texas–Pan American, was registered as a sex offender in 2006. According to Campus Reform, Johnson was convicted for indecency with an 8-year-old-child

Johnson can be seen posing with voter-registration cards in a picture on the Young Democrats Facebook page, with the caption saying the group “teamed up with Battleground Texas to register people to vote.”

Battleground Texas is a political-action group founded by a former Obama-campaign regional director devoted to turning Texas blue. On September 13, the executive director of Battleground Texas, Jenn Brown, tweeted her thanks to Johnson for the registration drive.

That picture was posted to the UT–PA Confessions Facebook page along with the link to Johnson’s Texas DPS page. In the comments, Johnson claims that he does not work with Battleground Texas and doesn’t hide from his past.
