The Presidential Debate Limit Is Atrocious

Fox News announced last night that it would restrict its first presidential debate to the first ten contenders in an average of recent polls before the debate. RNC chairman Reince Priebus said he approved. CNN then announced that its debate a month later will be broken into two parts, but the main event would still feature the top 10 with a second segment featuring some polling also-rans.

CNN’s idea is better than Fox’s, but both are wrongheaded — and Priebus is wrong to support them. Dead wrong.

In a later post, or perhaps my weekly column, I’ll explain in detail why these decisions are wrong, and what should be done instead. For now, though, it might help if activists who support other candidates flood the RNC with complaints. Today. This isn’t about “fairness” for the other candidates; it’s about opportunity for the public to make informed choices.
