The report which I criticize below was the work of a committee. Priebus’s own remarks did not dwell on immigration or social issues — doubtless reflecting the fact that setting the party’s policy agenda is not the daily work of the RNC — but instead made better-grounded comments about improving the party’s effectiveness at winning votes.
Given my criticisms, it’s only fair to note that the action items for the RNC that he discussed seem mostly sensible. (Still, I can’t resist pointing out that regular discussions with LULAC, La Raza, and the NAACP, which Priebus promises, is not a promising strategy for winning more nonwhite votes for the Republicans.)
