Proof? Who Needs Proof?

I’m late coming to this, but Senator Sessions hosted a press conference Thursday for the head of the ICE agents’ union and the Border Patrol union. I was going to say the comments were “unbelievable,” but they are all too believable in this administration. Chris Crane, head of the ICE union, said his colleagues were instructed by the suits to release any illegal alien who just claims to qualify for the president’s DREAM decree. Crane said:

Prosecutorial discretion for Dreamers is solely based on the individual’s claims. Our orders are, if an alien says they went to high school [in the United States], then let them go. If they say they have a GED, then let them go. Officers have been told that there is no burden for the alien to prove anything. Even with the greatly relaxed new policies, the alien is not even required to prove that they meet any of the new criteria. . . . At this point we don’t understand why DHS even has criteria at all, as there is no requirement or burden to prove anything on the part of the alien.

He concluded that portion by noting that “We believe that significant numbers of people who are not Dreamers are taking advantage of this practice to avoid arrest.” Ya think?

Crane then went on to describe an incident in El Paso (related here) of a criminal alien arrested for domestic assault who, when arrested, assaulted a federal agent while attempting an escape. Nevertheless:

Without any questioning, without any investigation, the alien was released as a Dreamer. No criminal charges, no immigration charges, no nothing — “He’s a Dreamer, release him.”

It’s guaranteed that at least a few of these people will go on to commit serious crimes, and then what’s the White House going to say? I assume they’re just keeping their fingers crossed that nothing explodes in their faces before the election — after that, win or lose, they will no longer need to care about the human cost of their reckless open-borders policies. But Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, and others on the right who endorsed Obama’s illegal DREAM decree, should be asked if they still back Obama’s move.
