Matthew Yglesias looks at Gallup’s polling on whether trade is more “an opportunity for U.S. economic growth through exports” or “a threat to the economy through foreign imports.” Republicans are taking the optimistic view at the same rate they did 10 years ago. Democrats and independents are taking a more optimistic view. Overall, then, positive views of trade have increased–which is not the impression you’d get from reading the political news.
