So far, in response to my article today–about Italian pro-Israel demonstrations and the lack of such demonstrations elsewhere–I have received two helpful emails, pointing out that there have been at least two anti-Iranian demonstrations, one in Berkeley, the other in Stockholm. Good news, yes, but these are primarily anti-regime Iranians demonstrating, these are not un-hyphenated Americans or Swedes-in-the-street defending Israel’s right to exist.

On November 1, a group of Iranian expatriates (and their supporters) held a rally and press conference at the entrance to the U.C. Berkeley campus, at Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue. The event was announced through an online press release and a notice on Yahoo news.
The event was arranged as a response to the statements by Iranian president Ahmadinejad calling for Israel to be destroyed and “wiped off the map.”
