Put the Shovel Down, Media Matters

Media Matters has issued a response to my pointing out its little slip-up earlier. It seems “NRO’s Mark Hemingway thinks it’s a big deal” and they think I have “dark suspicions” about them. As pleased as I am to see they can’t take a break from their usual high dudgeon and laugh about an unfortunate error, let me clarify — I don’t think it’s a big deal. I think it’s hilarious.

Far be it from me to suggest they stop patting themselves on the back about how well they “admit a small mistake, put it in context, and walk away smelling like a rose” (this according to one of their site’s obsequious commenters). Of course, if Media Matters actually cared about things like “context” they would point out Senator Sessions’s demonstrable record as a prosecutor in Alabama desegregating school districts and prosecuting the Klan — as I did — before they sent out press releases whining no newspaper in the country mentioned that he was once the target of entirely unproven accusations he made racially insensitive remarks.

Oh and while we’re at it, I’m still waiting for Media Matters to respond to me from April, when they spilled thousands of words trying to prove I was wrong about a factual matter and came up short. For an organization dedicated to picking apart the words of others and criticizing them, they sure can’t handle it when the tables are turned.
