Rachel Dolezal to Matt Lauer: ‘I Identify as Black’

From age five she colored herself with a brown crayon, and she declared unequivocally, “I identify as black.” Now, watch Matt Lauer grill her this morning on Today, using pictures showing her at different stages of her life, and her contrasting positions about her own ethnicity (she actually sued Howard University alleging that the school discriminated against her because she was white). Her responses, of course, are absurd if you desire to live in a world where the truth matters. But if you want to truly explore how the Left applauds one kind of troubled falsehood and attacks another, contrast Lauer’s interview of Dolezal with Katie Couric’s fawning interview of Laverne Cox. Here’s Lauer:

Can you imagine Couric putting up a picture of Cox in his teens and demanding to know how he “identified” just after he described how he felt since a young child? Both Cox and Dolezal are deeply troubled individuals who, for complex reasons, felt alienated from the identity of their birth. In both cases, it’s a sad tale, and Cox and Dolezal need help. Yet to the Left, one person is a hero while the other is a hate object. It makes no sense.
