Hillary’s ‘Fight Song’ Should Make You Sick

This morning I saw a charming video with various celebrities singing to the ever-empowering “Fight Song” by Rachel Platten. The song is catchy, great for a workout or for turning up when you need some extra motivation. I always sing along.

But it wasn’t long before I realized the video was actually a commercial for Hillary Clinton, who finally officially clinched the Democratic nomination last night at the DNC. I’m told that despite partisan politics, I should be celebrating this historical moment of the first woman gaining the nomination of a major political party. After all, it wasn’t even 100 years ago that women still didn’t have the right to vote.

There is a small part of me that celebrates but more than that, I’m sad. I’m sad that the woman who represents our gender in this pretty cool moment of history is of such low moral character, and has clawed her way here in the most politically calculated climb in history. I guess all politicians are politically calculating but her journey is particularly conniving. She’s truly Claire Underwood come to life.

Hillary Clinton has defended a man time and again who has been accused of sexual assault, rape and of course, infamously taking advantage of a young intern during his time in the White House.

Nevermind the lies and lies and lies. Nevermind putting our security in jeopardy for her personal convenience, refusing to take responsibility for false reports about Benghazi. Nevermind shamelessly changing her positions on issues for political reasons, then demonizing her opponents for holding views she formerly shared. Nevermind that it’s okay with her to kill healthy, viable unborn babies just before they take their first breaths.

If nothing else, just remember that women are celebrating today a defender of a serial sexual assaulter, a woman who told any number of other women they don’t deserve to be believed or heard.

As celebrities sing the words about Hillary’s “fight song,” about how she’s being “strong” and still has “a lot of fight left” in her, just remember the women whose lives were forever scarred because of her husband, a man who is inexplicably worshipped by half the country because he’s “charming.”

“Fight Song” includes the lyrics, “And I don’t really care if nobody else believes me.” Well, nobody really does believe you, Hillary — and now you know what it feels like.
