Racism and Obama: A Challenge to NIAC

The National Iranian American Council, which often advocates to bring U.S. policy closer to the position of the Islamic Republic, has issued on its blog a statement:

While the newly elected President Obama has been bombarded with letters, messages and advice, a message from Al Qaeda’s second-in-command, Ayman al- Zawahiri has struck an unlikely harmony between the terrorist organization and neoconservatives in the US. The terrorist leader’s statement included discriminatory remarks toward President-Elect Obama as well as a charge of America’s military defeat in Iraq and a possible Iranian/US dialogue that would include bilateral cooperation over Afghanistan. The slurs used toward the President-Elect, whether racial or religious, are discriminatory and disgraceful, and will likely prove counterproductive for the terrorist group, given the not only national but global enthusiasm over Barack Obama’s victory.

Putting aside the silly moral equivalence and unsubstantiated straw man argument in which NIAC engages (are ‘neoconservatives’ a single unit like borg? Who disparages Obama because of his race? Does NIAC really believe in the conspiracies its promotes?), herein lies an opportunity for Trita Parsi and NIAC to show that they are not afraid to hold the Islamic Republic accountable for its statements and its actions. Days before Zawahiri’s despicable statements, the Islamic Republic’s official and unofficial organs described Obama with similar racist diatribes.  Trita Parsi, NIAC, Mr. Ward, will you condemn the Islamic Republic’s statements publicly?
