A reader: “I’m not aware of Gonzales making the unequivocal statement your

correspondant ascribes to him, but he has definitely spoke in favor of the

“assault weapons” ban, which certainly suggests a weakness on the 2nd

Amendment. Blogger Bill Quick mentioned this as a disqualifier the other

day.
