The article attributes 31% of the deaths over the period to coalition action, but that proportion is down to 26% in the last year (from a high of 39% in 04-05), when the total number of deaths was at their highest.  For those concerned about the methodology of the study, cluster sampling like this is a well-recognized and respected method in medical science, but still depends on extrapolation from data of just 302 actual violent deaths recorded.  The range for violent deaths is 426,000 to 794,000, with a mid-range estimate of 601,000.  Full article is available as a PDF here.
