Ramesh — I agree that is whackadoodle stuff. But using the same level of intellectual rigor, couldn’t you argue that many (though certainly not all) secular atheists or ethical humanists — or whatever you call them — should never carry guns either?
Why do you need a gun? Can’t you rely on the inherent goodness of all mankind? You must choose between believing the best of people, or the worst.
Why defend yourself? We’re all brothers under the skin, and you never need to defend yourself from a brother.
A gun!? That’s crazy. Just reason with your hateful attacker. That’s what Gandhi did. Well, right up until the moment he was shot. But still . . .
