Re: Back to the Future

One of the things promised in that ad was “energy independence: secured” or words along those lines, accompanied by a picture of windmills turning.  Now, windmills provide (a very small amount of) electricity.  By and large, we don’t import large amounts of fuel to make electricity — that’s, for the most part, generated from good old American coal.  Some people have suggested importing more natural gas to make cleaner electricity, but that’s the very reverse of “energy independence.”  So what’s he getting at here?  More hybrid-electric cars?  Possibly, and that’s the way the market’s heading in any event, but they’re not going to be powered by wind turbines.  All the ad does is confirm that this candidate’s energy policy is just as confused as all the others’.
