Re: The “Is Blair a Wich?” Project

I don’t presume to answer for John or Andrew, but here’s my take. A Tory win in 1997 was implausible, so discredited was the Major government, but had William Hague become Prime Minister in 2001, we would have seen a very strong, intelligent and articulate leader who would have stood just as close by America as Tony Blair and who would not have spent so much time trying to get the approval of international organizations for action. Nor would he have invested so much in transnational authorities like the International Criminal Court or the Kyoto Treaty. Britain’s economy would not be being held back by the massive tax burden Gordon Brown has imposed (highest ever next year) and the European Question would have been faced up to in one way or another. I suspect he would have won re-election last year as well.
