Kris Kobach fears, in the op-ed that Derb linked to, that the six-minute maximum that immigration adjudicators are permitted per application will fall to perhaps only two minutes once the tsunami of amnesty applications come in. The bureaucratic overload of the amnesty could be addressed in others way as well. For instance, over the weekend it was revealed that customs inpectors at Orlando’s international airport “say supervisors told them to enter false data after rushing passengers through customs during the busy summer and fall seasons in 2005″ due to “increased pressure to process travelers with little or no screening to appease airport authorities and the area’s vital tourism industry.” Or you might see what happened a few years ago at the California regional processing center for immigration applications, where contract employees dealt with a backlog by shredding thousands of applications.
