Jonah: Sorry, and I know I’ve banged on about this before, but this is a nontrivial issue, in my opinion. We’d be a healthier society if more of our cognitive and economic elites had offspring in the military. How can it be good for America that soldiering is largely (yes, I know, not entirely, but largely) a lower-middle and working-class occupation? I’m no more tolerant of snide lefties than you are, but they do have a point here.

As to the Secret Service issue — well, they coped with Elvis, didn’t they?
