Re ‘A Debate Question for Future Use’

Kathryn, that’s exactly the question that WFB posed at the beginning of his presidential debate in 1988. He had all the Republican candidates on Firing Line. (I think he had the Democratic candidates too, at another time.) And he gave them only one question in advance: Which portraits would you hang? People felt obligated to say Reagan, among others. And I recall Al Haig saying something like, “I’ve seen a lot of hanging and removal of portraiture in my years in the White House. It doesn’t make much difference.”

Anyway, an oldie but goodie, that question.
