Re: Deer in Kevlar

David, I’ll get into this at more length in my Tuesday newsletter, but I do hate that stupid line about “deer in Kevlar,” and the attendant claim from the gun-grabbers that they only want to go after the “dangerous,” “military-style” weapons, not Uncle Fudd’s deer rifle. They are utterly impervious to the fact that lots of hunting rifles are a heck of a lot more powerful than that little ol’ 5.56mm AR that scares the pants off of everybody. Forgive the gun-nuttery, but: Kevlar (or, as a reader points out, proper body armor, which involves more than Kevlar) might save you, or Bambi, from an AR round — it probably isn’t going to save you from the rifles used by hunters going after elk or brown bears or Cape buffalo. As a purely ballistic matter, hunting rifles are the most powerful weapons typically handled by any civilian, and big-game rifles are many times more powerful than a standard AR.
