re: Down at Green Gables

An e-mail:

Living for 50 years with a brother who is bi-polar/manic depressive makes LLM heroic to me. Having witnessed what this insidious disease has done to my brother and our family makes her already extraordinary life even more so. How does one with such a dibilitating disease that dwells on negativity produce our “Anne with an E” Shirley, known for her optimism. I imagine that LLM longed to be Anne.

My hats off to a family who had to have been supportive in order for her to have achieved so much.

Many drugs and therapies are out there now for those who suffer from depression but not enough is said to encourage those who live with it’s victims. Opening up and admitting mental illness is the only way to remove the stigma that centuries of hiding have wrought. Kudos, again, to the family of LLM for helping to bring it out of the shadows.
