Dan Senor and I don’t always see eye-to-eye, but his piece responding to Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s book is well-worth reading. And while I’ve been highly critical of CPA—and, indeed, left the Green Zone because of it—Rajiv’s account was just dishonest. The political team—supposed dominated by DoD, for example—was something like 17 diplomats and 1 Pentagon employee, a lowly GS-9. History won’t treat kindly such distortions. What is lacking from the public debate—and what would put an end to this nonsense—would be a breakdown of officials by bureaucratic origin and category. Why this administration let’s such charges fester and become conventional wisdom is beyond me.
