re: Faisal Shahzad

Two things:

1) “Shahzad’s flight to Dubai had left the gate and was headed toward the runway when authorities discovered that he was on board and wanted.” This story sure is a series of close calls.

2) I keep hearing New York senator Chuck Schumer’s voice in my head: “The odds are quite high that this was a lone wolf.” I have flashbacks this morning to the secretary of homeland security from Sunday, too: “You know, at this point I have no information that it’s anything other than a one-off.”

Now that a naturalized American from Pakistan named Faisal Shahzad, having just been to Pakistan, has been arrested en route to Dubai, Eric Holder is saying — in a wee-hours press conference — “It was clear that the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans.”

So why, again and again, is the reflex to bend over backward pretending that there is not a war against us? When there is a car bomb in Times Square it’s not wild to conclude that the two might be related. It seems silly for a senator from New York to work overtime denying their could be a connection. Dangerously silly, if this is how these people truly are thinking outside of premature press remarks.
