It is an ugly coinage. My chief purpose was to draw attention to that great Paul Claudel quote. (I would also like to point out that Paul Claudel later served as France’s ambassador to the U.S., and therefore — attention, baseball fans! — there must have been French diplomatic cables addressed to “Claudel, Washington.”)
