Biden and the Democrats may be cutting off their nose to spite their face here. On one hand, in their worldview, Turtle Bay is incredibly important. On the other hand, they seek to deny the President his man there. What better way to show respect for the importance of the seat then to have an ambassador, like him or hate him, that has a direct line to the White House and the State Department? Any compromise candidate is, by definition, weak.
