John, excellent point on the unity question. I would have liked to include that sorry question, because “unity” depends on BOTH sides of a divide agreeing to be tremendously civil. In a democracy, when elected power is at stake, it doesn’t make sense to give up competing for it. It would have been nice, for Cheney, in some alternative universe, to quip: “Hey, who’s been playing up Michael Moore and Howard Dean? Wasn’t me.”
