Derb, I had a more basic objection to Toobin’s piece: He’s saying in essence that the disinclination of Republican/conservative voters to vote for the liberal Democrat candidate in sufficient numbers is the best argument for keeping these districts under separate electoral arrangements.

I can imagine Robert Mugabe making such a case before the Zimbabwe Supreme Court, but I’m surprised to find that line being advanced here even by The New Yorker.
