Good Lord, Derb. What Michael Richards did wasn’t to express solidarity with his own ethnic group. What he did was uncontrollably scream the word “n–ger” repeatedly in a comedy club at some guy in the audience who had the temerity not to be laughing at his doubtlessly unfunny routine. It’s not “moral preening” to say he behaved in a disgusting fashion, in a way that most people would not — and you really do your cause of championing Assortive Whiteness no service by enlisting him in it.
