Ramesh, your ironic reference to Sanford Levinson’s reaction to the supposed “constitutional crisis” posed by the commutation of Scooter Libby’s sentence is entirely apropos. At worst, what Bush did might constitute a political crisis. But in no way is it a constitutional crisis. The president’s constitutional authority to commute and pardon is unquestioned.
